Super Wide Dynamic Range CCTV Cameras

Today the CCTVs are seen everywhere for security purposes. There are a lot of technologies that are used in the CCTV system to make the recorded footage clearer. The Dynamic Wide Range is one such technology that is used in the cameras for efficiency. Here is some basic information on this technology and its use in CCTV cameras.

The use of dynamic range
The CCTV system is likely to face issues related to accuracy, resolution and the right amount of light. The sensors reaction to varying light conditions decides the clarity of the images captured by a camera. With the help of wide range technology, it is possible to capture detailed images in all types of light conditions. For example, if the camera is installed in the inside of the room, it will efficiently capture images both light and dark in one scene without missing the slightest details. This sure is dynamic!

What is dynamic range?
Dynamic range is nothing but the difference between the largest and the smallest value of a measurable quantity. These measurable quantities could be sound and light. When we talk about cameras, it is the ratio of the lightest and the darkest elements that can be displayed on an image. The photographers use varied exposure ranges to get the most realistic image. The photographers take several pictures of the same object with different ranges and then these pictures are combined to get the finest picture. The same technology is created for the CCTV system as well, known as the Wide Dynamic Range.

The impact of wide dynamic range (WDR) on the camera
This technology is adept in giving out a well balanced image of a dynamic range. For example, you can take an indoor security camera pointing towards a window or a building entrance. The day time image of this camera would be too bright or washed out due to the light coming in. This could be easily seen in the places that have huge widows and entrances- stores, restaurants and offices are few such places.

Most of the CCTV systems use a technology called the Black Light Compensation to solve this issue of too much brightness. But, it is the Wide Dynamic Range that has gained popularity off late. It is the finest solution for washed images. The WDR cameras are installed with two Charge- Coupled Devices (CCD). One of them is high speed and other one is low. These provide two scans of the same image for a clear and balanced viewing. It is better than the conventional camera for the very same reason. The combination of both results in a perfect video in varying light conditions too.
