PTZ Security Cameras

The PTZ camera that it is commonly known is an abbreviation for Pan Tilt and Zoom. These cameras are a part of the security system in many places like business establishments and government owned areas. These cameras have a rare ability pot Pan, Tilt and Zoom to about 300 yards and more. They can easily focus on a license plate, faces of passersby and the like.

These cameras are quite advanced as their ability to pan, tilt and zoom makes them highly dynamic. The panning movement is horizontal whereas tilt is a top to bottom movement on a fixed axis. This gives a wide coverage of the area under vigilance. PTZ cameras are expensive to buy as well as operate. These cameras require security personnel to operate them which is the reason why they are not much in use for residential security. These cameras are commonly seen at big departmental stores, government offices and other commercial areas. Some auto tracking PTZ cameras are gaining popularity now.

The simplest way to track a PTZ camera is using a joystick and a key board. It may be expensive to employ a security guard but this is the safest way to monitor this camera. A new technology to control the PTZ camera is the Security DVR Software. This software has a toggle interface up and down and from left to right, making it easy to monitor on a click of the mouse. Another controlling device is a remote that can be connected to the PTZ camera and it can be zoomed in and out and can also be panned as per the requirement. The experience would be similar to changing channels on a TV.

The high definition zoom lens is the key feature of this camera. This lens can shoot up to 450 yards though when set at maximum may give distorted images. The feature of auto tracking makes this camera the best. A PTZ camera with this technology would not require a guard to operate. PTZ cameras are made for wide areas and not for local consumers.

The PTZ cameras have low -lux setting which enables them to capture images in the night or low light conditions. Lux rating tells the amount of light needed for the camera to capture a video. Low lux rating means a camera can capture images in low light. The PTZ cameras now have the infrared security system to capture high resolution images in the dark.

The recess mounting facility of the PTZ camera makes it a good option for residential use. This facility conceals the camera from public eye. There are mini PTZ cameras too with all the necessary functions. They are vandal proof, recess mount and auto-tracking also.
